About Hilary

Hilary Greenwald is a mixed-media artist originally from Pennsylvania. She was interested in art from an early age and began to seriously pursue art in high school. In 2009 she attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania for art studio and art history. Then, in 2016 she became an active member of the Indiana Art Association for three years serving as the secretary and scholarship chair. During that time, she won awards in the Annual IAA Spring Shows held at the Artist Hand Gallery and Annual Open Arts Shows in 2016-2018 for her mixed-media glass painting and mosaic work. Also, Hilary has sold artworks in multiple venues such as craft shows, hospitals, and restaurants.

In 2019, Hilary moved to West Virginia and began studying Biblical Counseling/Women’s Ministries at Appalachian Bible College where she aspires to use art in counseling practice and church ministry. In the four years she has attended, Hilary has worked with the Music Department for stage art and design for their annual concerts—projects ranging in style and medium from faux stained glass, West-Virginia themed quilts, pen-and-ink, and watercolor. She is presently living in West Virginia where she fell in love with the natural beauty of the state, becoming a major inspiration for her work. She currently has art for sale in the Love Hope Arts Center for the Arts in Fayetteville, is a member of the Beckley Art Center, and hopes to make other connections in the art community. She is open for commissions and for facilitating group paint parties.

Artist Statement:
Hilary seeks to use her art to evoke a sense of curiosity and wonder in her audience through the use of intricate line, texture, and color. She explores a variety of art mediums believing that growing in one medium will bring further skill and competency in another. The natural beauty of the world around her in landscapes and animals is a major inspiration in her work. However, her deep introspection affects every piece uniquely—one tile of a mosaic or one color of paint can evoke many thoughts that both inspire and fuel the design of the entire artwork.

Hilary often works with repurposed objects such as broken picture frames, glass, jewelry, and wood, seeking to bring new life and beauty out of these discarded materials. This philosophy parallels her personal walk of faith as a follower of Christ. Consequently, she sees art as a great tool in counseling to open doors in a person’s heart and mind that are otherwise shut. She aspires to combine art and faith to help a person find hope and lasting change in their life.
